Checked August 31, 2026: choose the birthday video story before you choose the template. Count the photos and clips you would be happy to show, pick the final shape, then preview every required slot. A popular layout is still the wrong layout when it asks for 30 memories and you have six good ones.

1 STRONG PHOTO

Make a message, not a fake montage

Use one clean image, a short line you would actually say and enough screen time to read it. A square post or simple vertical message works better than repeating the same photo.

4–10 MEMORIES

Build a short, specific montage

Open with the person, show one shared memory, add a personality beat and finish with your own message. This is the safest starting point for a friend, partner or family member.

11+ MEMORIES

Use a photo dump only when the pace fits

Dense templates can work for quick impressions. They do not work when viewers need to read captions or recognize every face. Remove weak duplicates before filling extra slots.

DATE, TIME, PLACE

Treat an invitation as a different job

An invitation must communicate event details first. A sentimental tribute can hide information in the edit; an invite cannot. Check that its text fields are actually editable before importing media.

Birthday video decision board matching recipient, photo count and format to message, montage, photo dump or invitation
Start with the person, the usable media and the destination. Those three choices narrow the template library faster than a “viral” label.

Choose by recipient, media and format

The recipient changes the tone, but it should not force the entire structure. A best-friend video does not need 40 clips just because a template title says “BFF.” A partner edit does not become personal because it uses hearts. The useful decision is simpler: what do you genuinely have to say, and how many distinct memories support it?

Put the selected media in a temporary album before opening CapCut. Count only usable items: no blurred duplicates, screenshots with private notifications, or group photos where the birthday person is barely visible. If you have eight good memories, search for an eight-slot layout. Do not pad a 30-slot template with near-identical frames.

Then match the destination. 9:16 is the practical starting shape for Stories, Reels, Shorts and TikTok. 1:1 suits a square feed post. 16:9 makes more sense for a television, presentation screen or conventional YouTube video. The format does not guarantee that platform buttons will avoid your text, so keep names and messages away from the outer edges.

Official birthday template examples checked August 31

CapCut has an official birthday collection plus narrower pages for photo/video tributes, best-friend edits, many-photo layouts and invitations. The examples below came from those current official pages. We recorded their media count, duration and ratio from the template detail data rather than guessing from the thumbnail.

Availability warning: all 12 detail pages below returned a current page in our NL/EU research gateway, but CapCut marked template use unavailable there. Your account, device, app version, language or region may show a different result. Treat each link as a dated example and let the live Use template screen—not this article—decide whether you can use it.

One to ten media slots

1 SLOT · 21.2 SEC · 1:1

One-photo square message

Useful when one photo carries the moment and the words matter more than fast cuts. Check that the text style fits your message before committing.

Check the official one-photo page
2 SLOTS · 30.0 SEC · 9:16

Two-part vertical message

Enough room for an opening portrait and a second shared memory without pretending two images are a full photo dump.

4 SLOTS · 14.3 SEC · 9:16

Short four-memory edit

A compact choice for one person, one event and one closing wish. Four different moments will read better than four versions of the cake.

8 SLOTS · 16.9 SEC · 9:16

Best-friend mini montage

Eight slots are enough for a beginning, a few shared memories and a clean ending without making every image flash past.

Check the official eight-slot page
8 SLOTS · 29.1 SEC · 9:16

Mixed photo-and-video tribute

The longer runtime gives a short clip room to move. Use stills around it instead of stacking eight busy videos back to back.

1 SLOT · 26.5 SEC · 9:16

Vertical birthday invitation

Use only when the date, time and place can be edited and remain readable. If those fields are locked, choose another invitation rather than covering them with extra text.

Fourteen to forty-one media slots

14 SLOTS · 13.0 SEC · 9:16

Fast child or baby montage

Fourteen items in thirteen seconds is a burst of memories, not a detailed story. Keep every frame simple and crop-safe.

22 SLOTS · 13.1 SEC · 9:16

Rapid many-photo message

The average pace is well under a second per item. Use it for recognizable close-ups, not group photos or written captions.

Check the official 22-slot page
24 SLOTS · 17.9 SEC · 9:16

Birthday photo dump

A good fit for deliberately casual fragments: meals, places, outfits, jokes and tiny details. It still needs an intentional opener and closer.

Check the official photo-dump page
30 SLOTS · 20.5 SEC · 9:16

Dense general birthday edit

Use only if you have 30 distinct images ready. Repeating frames to satisfy the count makes the template feel longer, not richer.

Check the official 30-slot page
30 SLOTS · 33.6 SEC · 9:16

Longer 30-memory montage

The extra time makes faces and places easier to register. It is the better of the two 30-slot structures when the memories need a little breathing room.

41 SLOTS · 21.6 SEC · 9:16

BFF photo-heavy edit

Forty-one slots demand ruthless selection. Use short, visually different moments; a large camera roll is not the same as 41 useful frames.

These are not ranked by use count. A popular template can be unavailable in your region, badly matched to your photos or impossible to personalize. The broader CapCut template hub explains the current discovery routes when none of these structures fits.

Turn the photos into a birthday story

A template supplies timing. It does not supply a reason to care. The quickest way to humanize the result is to give each part one job:

  1. Open with recognition. Use one frame where the birthday person is immediately clear. Do not start with a generic cake if the video is about someone you know.
  2. Show a shared memory. Pick a place, trip, meal or ordinary moment that belongs to your relationship, not merely the most polished photograph.
  3. Add a personality beat. A familiar habit, running joke or small detail feels more personal than a second generic “Happy Birthday” title.
  4. Write one sentence of your own. “Still laughing about this” is better than a paragraph copied from a greeting site. Keep it short enough to read at normal playback speed.
  5. Close cleanly. Finish with the wish, the person or the event details. Avoid a random leftover slot after the message has already ended.

Five beats are enough to make a short birthday edit feel intentional. The sequence matters more than squeezing in every photo on the phone.

Audit the template before importing

Watch the full preview before opening the media selector. Template names collide—several official pages are simply called “Happy Birthday”—so the visible structure is more reliable than the title.

  • Slots: prepare exactly the required count and notice whether the selector accepts photos, videos or both. If you are two items short, pick a smaller template instead of duplicating frames.
  • Crop: look for split screens, masks and fast zooms. A landscape group photo rarely survives the same frame as a vertical portrait without manual repositioning.
  • Text: confirm which names and messages are editable. Invitation details are a hard requirement; decorative text is not.
  • Audio: listen for cuts tied tightly to the original track. Replacing the song can leave every visual change between beats. Also check whether the audio is suitable for where you plan to publish.
  • Ending: watch for a creator card, logo segment or abrupt final frame. Reserve a clean image for the close.

Preview first, import second. Slot count, crop, editable elements and the saved file are four separate checks.

Use a birthday template in CapCut

CapCut's current template instructions describe the most complete flow on Mobile: open a template, choose the required photos or videos, preview, select an exposed segment, replace or crop it, then export. Labels and available controls can still move between app versions and accounts.

  1. Open the official detail or collection page. On a phone, the live page may hand the layout to the CapCut app. If the button is absent, do not assume the template will work after a reinstall.
  2. Select the prepared album. Fill the opening, memory, personality, message and closing slots in that order where the template allows it.
  3. Preview at normal speed. Scrubbing hides rushed captions and awkward pauses. Watch once without touching the controls.
  4. Fix each exposed crop and text field. If a necessary element is locked, leave the template. Do not build a patchwork of overlays around it.
  5. Export a short test. Watch the saved file outside CapCut with sound on, then check the final platform preview before publishing.

CapCut's Help Center also says template visibility can change with region, account, version and connectivity. If your Template tab or one of the linked layouts is missing, use the site's CapCut template troubleshooting guide rather than deleting local projects as a first step.

When another route is better

Use a slideshow when photo order and reading time matter more than preset effects. The CapCut slideshow guide helps match slot count and then shows the manual timeline route when the preset pace is wrong.

Use a collage when two or more related images need to stay visible together—a then-and-now pair, family grid or set of messages. The CapCut collage guide covers photo, video and split-screen layouts.

Use a recap when the birthday is the event being summarized after it happens. A greeting made before the day and an event recap made after the day answer different questions; the CapCut recap guide is built for the second one.

Build an invitation separately when people need the date, time, place or RSVP details. CapCut's official invitation collection is a better starting pool, but every information field still needs a live editability check.

Birthday template export check

Watch the saved file on another screen before sending it to the birthday person or publishing it. Confirm that:

  • the person appears immediately and the sequence has a clear ending;
  • no private notification, location, child name or account detail slipped into a screenshot;
  • faces, cake text and event details stay inside the crop;
  • every message remains on screen long enough to read once;
  • the sound is present and appropriate for the destination;
  • the export has no surprise logo segment, watermark or blank final frame.

If resolution, frame rate or compression is the remaining question, use the CapCut export settings guide. The template is not finished when the timeline looks right; it is finished when the saved video works where the recipient will actually watch it.

CapCut birthday templates FAQ

How many photos do I need for a CapCut birthday template?

The exact template sets the media count. Current examples in this guide range from one to 41 slots. Count your good photos first, then choose the closest structure instead of repeating images to fill a larger template.

Which birthday template should I use for one photo?

Choose a one-slot message or a simple manual project with enough time to read the wish. A square post suits feeds; a vertical version suits Stories and short-video platforms. Check the live crop before exporting.

What is the best CapCut birthday template for a best friend?

The useful choice matches your real media and message, not the “BFF” label. For four to ten memories, use a short montage. For many distinct moments, use a photo dump only when the fast pace still lets viewers recognize them.

Are CapCut birthday templates free?

Do not assume every listed layout is free. Paid templates exist, access varies and the current price or badge can change. Check the live template or checkout screen before selecting all your media.

Can I change the text and music in a birthday template?

Only the elements exposed by that specific template can be changed. Preview the text and audio controls first. If a required name, date or song is locked, choose another template or rebuild the idea in a normal project.

Why will a CapCut birthday template not open?

The layout may be unavailable for your region, account, platform or app version, or the creator may have removed it. Try the official birthday collection, then use the template troubleshooting guide if several links fail.

Should I use a birthday template or make the video manually?

Use a template when its slot count, crop, text and pace already fit. Build manually when photo order matters, messages need more reading time, event details must be exact or your own song needs different cut timing.
