How to Export CapCut Captions as SRT or TXT

Choose the Output You Actually Need

There are two valid exports, but they solve different jobs:

• Separate SRT file: text and timecodes remain editable and can be uploaded to a compatible player or platform. CapCut fonts, animation, colour and screen position do not travel with a basic SRT.
• Separate TXT file: useful as a readable transcript or as CapCut's fallback when SRT export fails. Inspect it before converting it; ordinary text without timecodes is not automatically a valid SRT.
• Video with burned-in captions: the words are rendered into the picture. They survive cross-posting, but viewers cannot switch them off and every correction needs another video export.

A basic SRT is made of sequenced text and timecode blocks stored separately from the video. That is why an exported SRT can preserve wording and timing without preserving the look you built in CapCut.

Check Whether the Caption Track Can Be Exported

Open the caption list and select one of the blocks before touching the export settings. You are looking for a real recognized caption track, not text boxes placed over the video.

CapCut's current caption export troubleshooting page says only automatically recognized captions can be exported. Use this practical check:

1. Auto Captions created the track: continue to Caption Export.
2. You typed ordinary text layers: expect those words to remain part of the video design, not a downloadable SRT track.
3. You imported an SRT: keep the original file. CapCut's current support rule does not promise that every imported track can be exported again.
4. The timeline is empty or recognition failed: stop here and repair caption generation instead of changing encoding or folders.

Do not delete, regenerate or flatten a reviewed track just to test the export button. Duplicate the project first when the caption work matters.

Export CapCut Captions as SRT or TXT on Web

In the current official Web screenshot, the path is:

1. Open the project and confirm the recognized caption blocks are present.
2. Click Export.
3. Open the three-dot menu beside Download.
4. Choose Download captions.
5. Select SRT file for timed subtitles or TXT file for the text fallback.
6. Open the downloaded file before closing the project.

The label may move as the Web Editor changes. If Export only offers sharing and video download, return to the Captions panel and confirm the track came from Auto Captions. Save and reload the project once, then check the menu again. If the Web workspace itself is unstable, use the checks in the CapCut Web Editor guide before rebuilding the caption track.

Export CapCut Captions as SRT or TXT on Desktop

On Windows or macOS:

1. Open the finished project and play the first, middle and final caption.
2. Click Export in the upper-right corner.
3. Scroll within the export dialog until Captions appears.
4. Select Captions, then choose SRT or TXT in the format control.
5. Choose a clear filename and output folder.
6. Export, then inspect the file before changing the project.

The current official screenshot shows a Pro jewel beside Captions. That is evidence for the captured interface, not proof of one permanent global plan rule. CapCut can change access by account, build, platform, region and rollout. If your live dialog shows an upgrade prompt, treat that prompt as the current answer for that account; do not buy a plan based on somebody else's older screenshot.

If the Desktop app is missing the entire control, update the official build, restart it and test a short duplicate project containing a newly generated Auto Captions track. Use the CapCut for PC guide if the app itself or its official installation needs repair.

Can CapCut Mobile Export a Separate SRT?

CapCut's current Help text documents a Mobile route: use Auto Captions, open export, turn off Video Export, select Caption Export and choose SRT or TXT. The same Help page's Mobile image, however, only shows the Auto Captions generation panel—it does not show the promised export sheet. Current third-party pages disagree with one another about whether the file option is available.

That leaves one honest instruction: check the live export sheet in your current iOS or Android build before relying on Mobile for delivery.

• If Caption Export is present, keep the recognized track selected, turn off Video Export only if you want the file by itself, choose SRT/TXT and verify the file in Files or the system share sheet.
• If only resolution and Video Export appear, do not assume the SRT is hidden behind a random long-press menu. Preserve the project and source media, then use a supported Web or Desktop workflow.
• If the file is required for a client or upload deadline, run this availability test on a ten-second duplicate before editing the full transcript on Mobile.

This qualification is intentional. A menu promised by current support copy but absent from its supporting screenshot should not be presented as universal.

SRT or TXT: Which CapCut Export Should You Choose?

Choose SRT when another editor, player or publishing platform needs timed captions. A normal cue looks like this:

Choose TXT when you need a transcript to read or when CapCut's SRT export fails but TXT still works. CapCut recommends trying TXT first as a fallback on its current troubleshooting page. After download, look inside the file:

• if it contains timecodes, a careful conversion may preserve timing;
• if it contains only prose, converting the extension from .txt to .srt will not create valid cues;
• if names, punctuation or line breaks are wrong, correct the source caption track before producing the final delivery file.

For YouTube, Google's supported subtitle file guide accepts basic SubRip files and requires plain UTF-8. It also warns that SRT styling markup is not recognized. Uploading the file is therefore a good content-and-timing test, not a test of the CapCut font or animation.

Why Caption Export Is Missing

Work through these branches in order:

1. No Caption Export control anywhere: check platform and build, update CapCut and inspect the live plan prompt.
2. The control exists but the track is not listed: confirm the text came from Auto Captions rather than manual text or an imported file.
3. Auto Captions never created a usable track: use the generation-failure guide; export repair cannot fix an empty timeline.
4. The option appears only with an upgrade badge: the live account gate is controlling. Avoid old version downgrades, modified installers and copied account claims.
5. Mobile shows only Video Export: preserve the project and move the file-export job to current Web or Desktop rather than deleting reviewed work.

Do not install a repacked APK or an old Desktop build to recover one menu. It can expose projects and account data while leaving the export feature no more reliable.

When Export Runs but No Usable File Appears

First, note the destination shown in the dialog. Search that folder for the exact filename and for .srt or .txt; do not assume the file shares the video's name.

If CapCut reports an error or produces nothing:

1. Save the project and keep the original caption track.
2. Export to a short local path using ordinary Latin letters and numbers, such as a new Captions folder. CapCut recommends ASCII-only paths as a diagnostic for path and encoding failures.
3. Try TXT if SRT fails.
4. Restart the current official app or reload the saved Web project once.
5. Test a ten-second duplicate with a fresh Auto Captions track.

A simple path is a test, not a universal cure. Do not rename the only project folder or move its source media blindly. If the tiny duplicate exports while the live project does not, the problem is project- or track-specific and your original remains intact for comparison.

Fix an Empty, Corrupted or Out-of-Sync SRT

The file is empty or stops early

Open it in a plain-text editor. Check the first, middle and final cue against the caption list in CapCut. If the source track is complete but the file is not, export a copied short range or duplicate project before regenerating the entire transcript. An incomplete file is not proof that the reviewed timeline vanished.

Accents or non-Latin characters are corrupted

Keep the original file, then save a copy as plain UTF-8. CapCut's Desktop troubleshooting recommends UTF-8 without BOM for encoding problems. This repair belongs after a file exists; it cannot make a missing Caption Export option appear.

Timing is wrong after export

Compare three points:

• same offset everywhere: the subtitle track and final video may start at different times;
• drift grows toward the end: the file may have been matched to a different edit or duration;
• only a few cues are wrong: repair those blocks in the source track instead of shifting the whole file.

When the video was trimmed after captions were reviewed, export again from the final timeline. Do not repeatedly convert the file until you know whether the problem is a fixed offset, progressive drift or individual cue timing.

Verify the Caption File Before You Hand It Off

Use this five-point check:

1. Open the SRT or TXT outside CapCut.
2. Read the first, middle and final text block.
3. Confirm names, numbers and punctuation against the audio.
4. Play the final exported video in another player and compare those three points.
5. Upload the SRT to the real destination in draft/private mode when that platform supports caption files.
