Need an MP3, WAV, AAC or FLAC file from a CapCut project? Use CapCut Desktop when you can. Open Export, turn off Video exporting, enable Export audio, then choose a format shown in your live panel.
The common mistake happens earlier: Extract audio and Export audio do different jobs. Extracting makes a video clip's sound editable on the timeline. It does not prove that CapCut saved a standalone audio file.
On Mobile, CapCut can detach audio for editing, but the current official mobile workflow still finishes with a video export. If your phone's export screen has no audio-only option, move the project or final mix to Desktop, or convert a locally exported video with a trusted tool on your device. Do not upload private footage to a random converter.
Choose the audio result before you export

CapCut renders the audio that remains audible on the timeline. Play it once before opening Export. A hidden music bed, an unmuted camera track or a stray clip at the end can enter the file even when the main voice sounds correct.
Export audio only in CapCut Desktop
These steps apply to CapCut on Windows and macOS. Labels can move after an update, but the current official Desktop route uses the same two export controls.
- Open the finished project and play the first and last few seconds.
- Mute every track you do not want in the audio file.
- Click Export in the upper-right corner.
- Turn off Video exporting. This prevents CapCut from rendering an MP4 or MOV alongside the audio.
- Enable Export audio.
- Open Format and choose one of the options present in your build.
- Give the file a clear name and choose a local folder you can find again.
- Click Export, then open the saved file outside CapCut.

Extract audio and Export audio are not the same action
Extract audio creates a separate audio track inside the project. It helps when you want to remove the picture, cut the sound at different points, apply a fade or keep the audio while replacing the video.
Export audio writes the audible project mix to a standalone file. It belongs in the Export dialog, not the clip menu.
If your goal is the soundtrack from the whole project, extracting each clip adds work and creates more chances to leave two copies of the same sound active. If your goal is one clip's original audio, extract that clip, confirm the video is not playing a second copy, mute every unrelated audio track, then export.

Do not convert an MP3 to MP3 repeatedly while revising. Keep one WAV or FLAC master when the next tool accepts it, then make the delivery copy once.
CapCut Mobile: detach first, then check the export screen
CapCut Mobile can extract sound from a video and place it on the timeline. Depending on the build, you may select the video clip and choose Extract audio, or open the Audio tools and choose the extraction route.
That action gives you an editable track. It may not give you an MP3 in Files or Downloads. CapCut's current MP4 audio-extraction instructions tell Mobile users to export a video and say direct audio export for Mobile and Web is still being prepared.
Use this order:
- Extract or detach the source audio only if you need to edit it separately.
- Finish the mix and mute unwanted tracks.
- Open the export screen and look for an explicit audio-only or audio-format control.
- If it is absent, stop looking for the detached track in your phone's file manager. It still lives inside the CapCut project.
- Use CapCut Desktop for the cleanest native route, or export the video locally and convert that copy with a trusted on-device tool.
Avoid a browser converter for client footage, private recordings or unreleased music unless you have checked its retention and privacy terms. Moving the file to your own computer keeps the conversion local.
CapCut Web: separating a track does not guarantee a download
CapCut's official browser workflow documents uploading a video and separating its audio in the Web editor. It does not establish that every account currently gets the same standalone audio download control.
After you finish the mix, open Export and inspect the choices shown to you. If the panel offers Export audio, choose the required format and verify the downloaded file. If it only offers video output, do not follow an old screenshot or change account regions to force a hidden control. Download your project output and finish the audio export on Desktop.
Web feature access can change with the account, region and rollout. The visible control is stronger evidence than a tutorial recorded on another account.
If Export audio is missing, unavailable or marked Pro
Start with reversible checks. Do not reinstall CapCut while the only copy of an important project is local.
- Confirm that you are using Desktop, not the Mobile or Web editor shown in a tutorial.
- Save the project and source media before updating the app.
- Open a short clean project with one ordinary clip. Check whether Export audio appears there.
- Sign in to the intended account and reopen Export.
- Look for a Pro badge or an upgrade message beside the exact action. CapCut's pricing help says plan prices and access can vary by region, device and promotion.
- If the control appears but the file is silent, use the CapCut no-sound checks before exporting again.
- If the export starts and then stops, use the CapCut export-stuck guide instead of changing audio settings at random.
Community reports disagree about whether extraction or audio-only export is free on a given build. Treat those reports as warning signals, not a current price list. The badge and checkout shown in your own app decide what your account can use today.
Check the audio file outside CapCut
Do not stop at the successful-export message.
- Open the file in another player.
- Confirm the duration matches the intended project range.
- Listen to the first and last ten seconds.
- Check that voice, music and sound effects enter at the expected levels.
- Confirm that no muted reference track or camera audio returned.
- Inspect the actual format before uploading it.
- Keep the CapCut project and original media until the destination accepts the file.
For video resolution, frame rate or codec decisions, use the CapCut export settings guide. Those settings do not decide whether CapCut creates a standalone audio file.
